Activities
CIROC makes scientific and police analyses and literature accessible internationally. For example, we provide access for Dutch target groups to information on organised crime - and the fight against it - in, say, Russia, Colombia, Albania and Italy. Conversely, the Netherlands itself occupies an important position in the international world of organised crime. CIROC's activities enable foreign researchers, journalists, police and prosecutors to keep abreast of important developments in the Netherlands. To encourage cooperation between the research world on the one hand and police and prosecutors on the other, CIROC holds training courses and seminars for the staff of police forces and the criminal justice authorities in the Netherlands.
Broadly speaking, our activities can be divided into four categories. CIROC makes use of specific instruments for each category:
- Provision of information on organised crime abroad
- Provision of information on organised crime in the Netherlands
- Production of knowledge about organised crime in the Netherlands and abroad
- Transfer of knowledge from theory to practice and vice versa
Provision of information on organised crime abroad
CIROC makes information on organised crime abroad and the fight against it accessible to the Dutch language area. The information is provided on the Dutch website and through our newsletters in Dutch.
Provision of information on organised crime in the Netherlands
CIROC publishes information on organised crime in the Netherlands and the fight against it on this website and in English newsletters. The information is obtained from own research and from research conducted by other institutes in the Dutch language area.
Production of knowledge about organised crime in the Netherlands and elsewhere
The criminology departments of the Erasmus University Rotterdam and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam themselves conduct research into organised crime in the Netherlands and abroad and the fight against it in the form of literature studies and empirical research. Organised crime is being researched through other universities and research centers as well. CIROC is an important channel for dissemination of the knowledge obtained through research.
Transfer of knowledge from theory to practice and vice versa
